Moviegoers React to 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' Cocktail Price: 'That’s Nuts'

As "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" debuted nationwide on September 6, drawing in $110 million over its opening weekend, it’s not just the film that's sparking conversation. Moviegoers are also buzzing about the cost of a specialty cocktail tied to the sequel.

AMC Theatres is serving the "Sandworm Slayer," a vibrant blue cocktail featuring black and blue raspberry flavors, premium vodka, and sour candy worms. However, the cocktail's price has left some patrons in shock.

Andrew Woods from Los Angeles shared his experience on social media, revealing he paid $31 for the "Sandworm Slayer." His post quickly went viral, amassing over 115,000 likes and nearly 3,000 comments.

Reactions to the price varied widely. One user criticized the cost, saying, "$31 for a little bit of vodka and some gummy worms would make me hate the movie." Another lamented, "This is why people don’t go to the movies anymore," while others simply exclaimed, "That's nuts."

Despite the backlash, Woods clarified that he wasn’t upset about the cost but found the situation amusing, stating he enjoyed the drink nonetheless.

Other moviegoers reported different prices for the cocktail. User @TheJerseyMomma shared a photo of her "Sandworm Slayer" from AMC Theatres in Bridgewater, New Jersey, where she paid $22.39. She expressed disappointment, saying, "Even #Beetlejuice would be disappointed in this drink!"

On the other hand, @KeybladeKatie, who tried the drink in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, praised it, writing, "Got to enjoy a heated reclined seat, tasty food, and a Beetlejuice-themed drink," noting the $21 price.

Barry Brakeville, AMC Theatres' director of corporate communication, explained that drink prices vary by location due to local liquor laws. At 92% of AMC MacGuffins locations, the 24-ounce drink ranges from $15.99 to $21. However, in high-volume locations in Illinois, where Woods purchased his drink, the price can reach up to $28.25, with the cost reflecting specific state regulations.

AMC Theatres also offers other themed items such as a "Handbook for the Recently Deceased" tin with a large popcorn purchase and an exclusive "Grippr" cup with a mystery topper for large drink purchases. Additionally, a unique "ICEE" flavor is among the theater’s special offerings.
